ARTIST STATEMENT:

When my fundamentalist/evangelical upbringing crashed into the collegiate exchange of ideas, what formed to nourish and comfort me was the appreciation, expression and truths of art.

I’d always enjoyed drawing and after a brief stint at painting, it became obvious photography would show me the way.

Over time, I have come to know photography as a language – not just a documentation tool.

In using photographs, I want to both entertain and challenge myself and others to better engage our world – better predict where we’re going - not just document where we’ve been.

My concerns revolve around perception, how and why we see what we do, and what that meaning brings to us in real ways. My use of photography explores not only the outer world we may see as reality, but also the inner world - if we are brave enough to look - which can be just as fascinating, intriguing and enlightening.
